2017 Tonawanda's Scratch Eliminator Results

Mallwitz's Island Lanes on Grand Island hosted the Sixth annual Tonawandas Scratch Eliminator tournament. This year's tournament, held on Sunday April 30, 2017, saw 55 bowlers compete in a four game qualifier to see who would advance to the eliminator-style finals. A total of eleven bowlers were taken from the field for the finals. Leading the qualifying round was John Danielewicz with a four game total of (888). For being the high qualifier, John won a Radical bowling ball, which was donated by Rich Maloney's Prime Time Pro Shop at Rapids Bowling Center. He was followed by Patric Donaghue (876) and Peggy Kuhn (875), who was the first female qualifier in tournament history. Rounding out the field was Jeremy Zimmerman (865), Tom Friedmann (860), Art Oliver Jr. (858), Steve Kosut (853), Kevin Bienko (841), Tom Sorce (836), Mike Firzak (833) and Jeff Dio (820).

In match one of the first round Art Oliver Jr. (245) and Mike Firzak (236) led the way advancing to the second round. Match two saw Steve Kosut (239) and Kevin Bienko (236) also advance to round two. Match three saw Patric Donaghue (216) and Jeremy Zimmerman (197) also advancing to round two.

In match one of the second round Art Oliver Jr. (238) and Kevin Bienko (185) led the way advancing to the third round. Match two saw Patric Donaghue (220) and Jeremy Zimmerman (193) also advancing to round three.

The third round match was led by Jeremy Zimmerman (268) with Patric Donaghue (236) also advancing to the finals.

The two were then pitted against each other in the championship match. Patric Donaghue defeated Jeremy Zimmerman 220 to 168 to claim the title and the $1,000 first place prize. Zimmerman earned $600 for his second place finish. A total of $3,750 was paid out in prizes.
